Community at PCCH
At PCCH we have a multitude of community activities, both inside and outside our walls. Follow the links on the left to find out how you can enjoy being part of our community.
Below, please find upcoming mission opportunities with the Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network.
Our Brother’s Place
Please consider joining a serving team on one of our upcoming dates- we serve every fourth Sunday – including April 27, May 25, and June 22. Look for the sign-up sheet outside Widener Hall.
NPIHN Volunteer Orientation
Wednesday, April 23, 7:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church
Come hear and ask questions about volunteering with NPIHN, including a panel discussion with some of the families they’ve worked with. This will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 22 East Chestnut Hill Avenue, in Dixon House. New and returning volunteers are encouraged to attend. RSVP with Emily Camp-Landis, [email protected] or 215-208-6268.
Mission Opportunity May 4-11 with Our Homeless Neighbors – NPIHN
Volunteers still needed! Those who heard Rachel Falkove of NPIHN (now Philadelphia Hospitality Network, they started a branch in the Northeast) lead a recent Sharing Our Gifts Sunday talk now know that they do SO much more than “simply” shelter our neighbors who are homeless. The depth of their organization is quite remarkable, considering their size. They succeed in all of this largely through the support of volunteers. Like us.
You have a chance to be a part of this mission work NEXT WEEK. Our close neighbor St. Paul’s Episcopal Church is welcoming back NPIHN’s guest families then and PCCH has committed to buddying support for one week: Sunday May 4th (dinner) through Sunday morning May 11th (Mother’s Day).
Opportunities are to cook a dinner; serve dinner and join families in the meal; to sleep overnight as the overnight host; to drive families to a laundromat on Saturday; and “supplies runs” (breakfast and lunch foods). Families with children are very welcomed as the families’ children love to play! If you would like to cook AND serve, or some other combination of options, that is very much welcomed.
For those newer to our work with NPIHN, or coming back after a hiatus, reminders: The families live at St Paul’s for a whole month. During PCCH’s buddying week we need dinner cooks (arrive in time to warm up your dinner if needed, or drop it off all ready to be served at 6:30 pm); dinner hosts (arrive about 6-ish to serve dinner AND join in the meal with the families); and overnight hosts (one or two people who arrive at a time coordinated w/dinner hosts, typically 8pm-ish, sleep overnight, and leave about 7:30 am).
Please contact Emily Camp-Landis, [email protected] or 215-208-6268.
