Our Brother's PlaceOn the fourth Sunday of every month, volunteers from PCCH travel to Our Brother's Place (formerly known as the Gateway Men's Shelter) to serve dinner for the residents -- about 80 men in need. Our Brother's Place is located near 10th and Hamilton Streets in the Spring Garden section of the city. It was established in 1993 as a residence for homeless men suffering from alcohol or substance abuse, mental illness or unemployment. Run by Self, Inc., the Center is funded by the city, and receives medical and educational support from hospitals and colleges. All of the residents' food is donated. We have served at Our Brother's Place for over seven years. Members of our congregation volunteer to prepare Sloppy Joes each month. The Social Witness Committee purchases other foods (rolls, vegetable, fruit, cookies, and beverages) and supplies (plates, bowls, silverware, cups, and napkins), and arranges for three to five volunteers to prepare and serve dinner at the Shelter once a month. We are always looking for volunteers to join a serving team. This is a wonderful opportunity for a family or group of friends to be "in mission" together. It's less than a three-hour time commitment (from about 3:45 to 6:30 pm), and absolutely no experience is necessary! Please contact Suzan Willcox or the church office to sign up! Volunteers needed! If you would like to contribute a batch of Sloppy Joes,
here’s the very easy recipe: brown 2 lbs. ground beef and let it cool.
Put it in a Ziploc bag with a large can of Manwich sauce. Mix well. Freeze
the bag flat and then just bring it to the church freezer at your convenience!
