On-Site Volunteer Opportunities

As the state begins to re-open, many people have asked how to help in a more hands-on way. PCCH will not be organizing any group volunteering events at this time. However, many of our partners have returned to providing on-site services for neighbors in need. If you have time this summer, and you feel comfortable serving in these settings (which are observing social distancing practices), please consider these opportunities:

1. West Kensington Ministry.
WKM has become a food distribution center for the Kensington neighborhood, while working in conjunction with SHARE and Philabundence. Distribution to the neighborhood is on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. While your help would be appreciated any time, WKM has reserved Wednesdays as the day for partner churches to volunteer. This could include unloading trucks, sorting food, or distribution to the neighbors. If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to Adan Mairena at adan.mairena@gmail.com.

2. Face to Face Germantown.
Face to Face has begun allowing a limited number of volunteers on site to assist with their food distribution. Volunteers must go through an additional screening prior to volunteering. Volunteer opportunities include preparing food in the kitchen, distribution of food or working in the garden. Please visit www.facetofacegermantown.org to sign up.

3. Red Cross Blood Drive.
We will host two blood drives at PCCH:
Sunday, August 9, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Wednesday, August 19, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Please sign up on the Red Cross website to donate blood. If you would like to volunteer to help at the drive (four volunteers are needed each day), please contact Liz Podraza at lizpodraza@gmail.com. Thank you in advance and we hope to see (from a distance) everyone over the Weekend of Sharing.
